About the role

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain multiphysics models (primarily in MOOSE) for high-temperature ceramic and metallic components and pulsed-load systems
  • Simulate coupled thermal, structural, and electromagnetic behavior under rapid cyclic loading and high heat flux
  • Implement and calibrate constitutive models for fatigue-dominated damage, fracture, and degradation mechanisms
  • Execute rigorous verification and validation (V&V) by comparing model predictions to experimental results
  • Apply uncertainty quantification and sensitivity analysis to support life predictions and design margins
  • Translate modeling results into actionable design guidance for materials, joints, and components
  • Run large-scale simulations in HPC environments and build reproducible, version-controlled workflows
  • Help define a modeling roadmap and standards for key components and failure modes

Requirements

  • PhD or MS with significant experience in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Materials Science, or Applied Physics
  • 5+ years of experience in multiphysics finite element or finite volume modeling of coupled thermal–mechanical systems
  • Experience with irradiated materials modeling or materials in severely degrading environments
  • Proficiency with advanced multiphysics platforms such as MOOSE, Abaqus, COMSOL, ANSYS, BISON, OpenMC, or MCNP
  • Demonstrated experience with verification and validation against experimental data
  • Experience running simulations in HPC environments
  • Programming or scripting skills in Python or C++
  • Ability to communicate model assumptions and uncertainties to cross-functional teams
