Senior Motor Design Engineer

Responsibilities

• Own design, development, and integration of high power alternator and primary loop motor for a nuclear power generator
• Apply electromagnetic design and testing for a closed-loop Brayton cycle and its electric motor/generator components
• Create 3D models and 2D fabrication drawings in CAD and NX
• Own communications with vendors to source all components to build the generator
• Perform bench testing, dynamic testing, and system testing for all subsystem components and models
• Perform hands-on assembly, rapid prototyping, and integration of high voltage electric motors and generators

Requirements

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering specializing in power electronics
• 5+ years of design experience with high-voltage and high-power electric motors and/or generators
• Fundamental knowledge of electric motors
• Expertise in design of permanent magnet motors in +1kV, +1MW applications with speeds +40krpm
• Ability to work 100% onsite in El Segundo, CA

Preferred Qualifications

• M.S. in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering specializing in power electronics
• 8+ years of generator design experience
• Knowledge of motor control systems including SVM
• Deep understanding of Power Electronics and interaction of electronic circuits with electromagnetic components
