Harper is an AI-native commercial insurance company in San Francisco. We're rebuilding the entire business as software, turning expert human judgment into compute to transform a trillion-dollar industry.
Responsibilities
- Own the core AI infrastructure including LLM orchestration, prompt management, retrieval systems, and structured output parsing
- Design agent architecture and define abstractions for rapid deployment
- Build evaluation systems to measure agent performance in real-world scenarios
- Architect decision-trace capture to ensure AI judgments are traceable
- Own platform scale to support thousands of concurrent conversations with sub-second response times
Requirements
- 3+ years of software engineering experience with end-to-end system ownership
- Proven track record of building AI systems in production (LLM applications, agent frameworks, RAG, or voice)
- Proficiency in writing code with AI tools like Cursor or Claude Code
- Strong architectural judgment paired with hands-on implementation skills
- Ability to work on-site in San Francisco with high intensity and standards
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with voice or real-time systems
- Experience with agent frameworks or evaluation systems
- Prior startup experience
