Senior Medical Coder

Responsibilities

• Assign appropriate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes for inpatient services in a hospital setting
• Analyze medical records to identify diagnoses, procedures, and modifiers while understanding their impact on DRG
• Abstract additional data elements during the chart review process as required
• Provide documentation feedback to providers and query physicians when appropriate
• Adhere to ethical coding standards established by AAPC and/or AHIMA
• Maintain high productivity standards, targeting 1.5-2.5 charts per hour while meeting quality criteria
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA policies and maintain strict confidentiality of all patient records
• Stay updated on AHA guidelines and official coding conventions

Requirements

• Life Science or Allied Medicine degree
• Certification from AAPC or AHIMA
• 1+ years of multispecialty IP DRG coding experience
• 1+ years of Acute Care Inpatient medical coding experience
• Proven ability to meet quality and productivity metrics

Preferred Qualifications

• CIC certification
• Experience in coding for NLH, Marin, or DH
