Senior Medical Coder - E or M

Responsibilities

• Verify and abstract relevant data from medical records to assign appropriate codes for multispecialty outpatient clinics, urgent care centers, and inpatient hospital settings
• Analyze medical records to assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II codes with appropriate modifiers
• Maintain a coding pace of 12 charts per hour while meeting established quality criteria
• Review and analyze medical records to add or modify CPT codes for minor surgical procedures, vaccines, and laboratory services
• Monitor and implement updates from AMA, AHA, and CMS guidelines
• Check NCCI edits and LCD/NCD coverage determinations to ensure accurate code and modifier application
• Ensure strict adherence to HIPAA policies and maintain the security and confidentiality of all patient records

Requirements

• Life Science or Allied Medicine Graduate
• Professional certification from AAPC or AHIMA
• 2.5+ years of experience in multispecialty Evaluation & Management (E&M) medical coding
• Hands-on experience coding services such as Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Urgent Care, Dermatology, Gastroenterology, Cardiology, or Otolaryngology
• Proficiency in ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS guidelines
• Expertise in determining E&M levels (99202-99215) based on Medical Decision Making (MDM)
• Strong knowledge of Medical Terminology, Human Anatomy, and Physiology
