Senior Media Relations Specialist

Responsibilities

• Serve as a primary liaison between the university and news media outlets
• Cultivate and maintain relationships with local, national, and international reporters and editors
• Develop and execute press strategies to announce university news and research breakthroughs
• Proactively pitch and secure media coverage in top-tier news organizations
• Use AI-powered media monitoring and sentiment-analysis tools to identify emerging trends and reporter interests
• Write well-researched pitches, talking points, and official statements
• Handle and track incoming media requests and manage crisis communication situations
• Collaborate with the internal communications team on digital and social media efforts

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field
• 4–6 years of media relations experience with a proven track record of landing press hits
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain successful relationships with members of the press
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience managing crisis situations and responding to urgent media inquiries
• Ability to work on-site in Boston five days a week, including occasional after-hours or weekend work

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience using AI-powered media intelligence platforms and generative AI tools for content development and outreach
• Understanding of AI ethics and the ability to evaluate AI-generated content for accuracy and alignment
• Experience working within a large, complex global organization or higher education environment
