About the role

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for turbopumps and supporting fluid-loop mechanisms of the spacecraft active thermal control system
  • Perform architectural down-selection, design, and tolerancing
  • Conduct pump- and mechanism-specific analyses including rotor dynamics, bearings, seals, hydraulic performance, structural, and thermal-fluid
  • Develop environmental test and qualification plans
  • Create ground- and in-flight performance validation plans
  • Manage supply chain and high-volume manufacturing trades
  • Partner with thermal and platform architecture teams to scope long-term pumped-fluid-loop roadmaps
  • Collaborate with thermal, structures, avionics, and satellite bus teams
  • Prepare design reviews and manage program deliverables and schedules
  • Evaluate and select manufacturing equipment for specialty processes
  • Partner with production to develop work instructions and in-process checkouts

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace, or relevant engineering discipline
  • 5+ years of experience with mechanical and/or electromechanical design and analysis
  • 2+ years of experience in design and analysis of mechanisms, pumps, or fluid systems
  • Experience with CAD or FEA software packages

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing, building, and testing centrifugal or axial pumps for closed-loop thermal systems
  • Knowledge of NASA-STD-5017, SMC-S-016, and GSFC-STD-7000 for in-space Moving Mechanism Assemblies
  • Experience with bearing analysis, preload techniques, and preload measurement
  • Practical application of GD&T
  • Understanding of structural analysis and failure modes of complex mechanical systems in space environments
