Senior Mechanical Engineer

Responsibilities

• Tailor spacecraft platforms to meet specific mission needs
• Design, build, and test mission-specific components and payloads
• Create, analyze, and refine spacecraft mechanical designs in SolidWorks
• Design and document new, reusable components for the common platform
• Lead mechanical portions of internal and external design reviews
• Interface with structural and thermal engineers for analysis
• Lead environmental testing campaigns including vibration and TVAC
• Write mission-unique documentation and build procedures

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience designing, building, and testing high reliability hardware
• Proven leadership in mechanical design for spacecraft or complex electromechanical systems
• Experience leading or managing a small team of engineers or technicians
• Proficiency in SolidWorks for medium-to-large assembly management
• Mastery of GD&T, BOMs, FAIs, and tolerance/mass budgets
• Experience with ECO/DCO processes and PLM systems
• Strong documentation skills for build procedures, test plans, and design trades
• Experience managing external vendors for prototyping
• B.S. or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related field

Preferred Qualifications

• Flight heritage with hardware successfully operated in space
• Experience with deployable hardware such as solar arrays or antennas
• Familiarity with ADCS components like reaction wheels and star trackers
• Experience running structural analyses using FEMAP or ANSYS
• Knowledge of thermal management systems for spacecraft
• Software skills in Python or MATLAB
