About the role

Responsibilities

  • Develop mechanical design and 3D modeling of fusion engine systems including chamber, first wall, and vacuum chamber
  • Lead mechanical design and thermal-structural analysis of key components in steady-state and transient conditions
  • Evaluate effects of cyclic heat flux, creep loading, and fatigue loading on chamber components
  • Conduct thermal and structural analyses and parametric studies to validate material choices
  • Participate in design reviews and risk matrix development
  • Support and mentor other mechanical engineers and designers

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Materials, Nuclear, or Structural engineering
  • 7+ years of experience in mechanical design and analysis of structural materials
  • Expert-level skills in mechanical design and CAD
  • Expertise in finite element analysis using ANSYS or Abaqus
  • Knowledge of FEA and spatial/time discretization techniques for PDE systems
  • Familiarity with numerical material models for metallic systems
  • Experience with alloys, high temperatures, and irradiation effects

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with power plant design
  • Knowledge of Computational Materials Science or Mechanics
  • Experience developing scientific codes in C++, Fortran, or Python
  • Experience with fusion or nuclear technologies
  • Working knowledge of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes
