Responsibilities

• Design parts and assemblies in 3D CAD satisfying load, form factor, and durability targets
• Determine component-level mechanical requirements including stiffness, strength, and thermal specs
• Apply analytical methods such as FEA, tolerance stack-up, and kinematic analysis
• Generate accurate 2D drawings with GD&T per ASME Y14.5
• Build prototypes to test assembly, range of motion, and wire routing
• Design and build test stands and fixtures for structured validation testing
• Own the prototype-to-production transition using DFM/DFA principles
• Work with suppliers to select and qualify parts and perform root cause analysis on failures
• Conduct DFM/DFA reviews with contract manufacturers and support tooling bring-up
• Collaborate with electrical engineers on electromechanical integration including motor mounting and sensor placement

Requirements

• 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience in robotics, industrial automation, automotive, aerospace, or consumer electronics
• Proven track record of at least one product shipped to production
• Expert proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks, NX, CATIA, or Onshape)
• Mastery of GD&T per ASME Y14.5
• Experience with actuators and transmission systems (strain-wave, planetary, cycloidal, or direct-drive)
• Hands-on experience with structural analysis (FEA) and tolerance stack-up
• Proven electromechanical integration experience with motors, sensors, and wire harnesses

Preferred Qualifications

• Deep familiarity with CNC machining, injection molding, die casting, and sheet metal fabrication
• Direct experience working with contract manufacturers and tooling bring-up
• Hands-on prototyping experience with 3D printing and inspection equipment (CMM, CT scanning)
• Experience with thermal design and heat dissipation in compact systems
• Background in reliability engineering, fatigue analysis, or HALT/HASS
• Proficiency with CFD or multi-body dynamics simulation tools
