Senior Mechanical Engineer

Responsibilities

• Define and maintain a multi-generational tooling and fixture strategy aligned with product roadmaps
• Lead the design of complex jigs, fixtures, assembly aids, and test tooling using SolidWorks
• Serve as the primary tooling voice in Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFM/DFMA) reviews
• Source, qualify, and technically manage tooling fabrication vendors
• Establish company-wide standards for fixture design, work instructions, and tooling lifecycle documentation
• Partner with Manufacturing Engineers to validate tooling integration with assembly sequences and ERP BOMs
• Analyze assembly defects to identify tooling-driven root causes and implement corrective actions
• Coach and review the work of mid-career and junior tooling engineers

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent
• 8+ years of tooling, fixture, and production equipment design experience
• Expert-level proficiency in SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM
• Strong command of GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
• Deep understanding of precision machining, welding, and sheet metal fabrication
• Ability to design systems that reduce cycle time and error-proof operations

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering
• Experience with tooling design for modular buildings, switchboards, or data center infrastructure
• Familiarity with IEC, UL, or NFPA standards
• Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher
• Experience with ERP/MRP systems
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or EIT credential
