Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design spacecraft components, assemblies, and systems using 3D modelling tools to meet project requirements
• Design Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) for spacecraft assembly, handling, and testing
• Develop electronics enclosures in collaboration with electrical design teams to ensure PCA compatibility
• Manage mechanical work packages, including estimating schedules and budgets
• Implement design changes via Engineering Change Notes (ECNs)
• Complete manufacturing drawings, technical reports, and detailed assembly procedures
• Undertake hardware build activities in clean room facilities and maintain build logs
• Manage procurement demand through the company MRP system

Requirements

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent qualification
• Proven experience in mechanical design, preferably within the space industry
• Proficiency in leading CAD packages (SolidWorks preferred, or Solid Edge)
• Knowledge of aerospace materials, surface treatments, and finishes
• Eligibility to live and work in the UK and the ability to gain SC security clearance
• Strong communication skills and experience generating technical documentation
• Ability to deliver solutions under pressure and within tight timescales

Preferred Qualifications

• Practical experience supporting mechanical build and testing activities
• Understanding of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and ability to perform basic secondary structure analysis
• Understanding of spacecraft systems and production/manufacturing methods
• Experience with PDM, sign-off, and drawing release processes
