Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design of low-voltage switchgear and switchboard assemblies, including enclosures, structural frames, and cable management
• Develop 3D models, detailed drawings, and assemblies using SolidWorks
• Maintain complete manufacturing documentation packages including BOMs and fabrication drawings
• Collaborate with Electrical Engineering to ensure mechanical layouts support bus, breakers, and safety compliance
• Lead DFM and DFA activities to improve modularization and part reuse
• Generate and manage Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and deviation requests
• Support prototype builds, factory acceptance testing, and UL certification activities
• Mentor junior and mid-level mechanical engineers through design reviews and technical guidance
• Partner with suppliers on sheet metal, machining, welding, and assembly processes
• Provide shop-floor support and participate in root-cause analysis for quality issues

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
• 7+ years of experience in mechanical design within engineered-to-order or industrial environments
• 1–2 years of hands-on experience with low-voltage switchgear or switchboards
• Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks and PDM systems
• Strong knowledge of sheet metal, machining, structural design, and tolerance control
• Experience releasing manufacturing packages including drawings, BOMs, and ECOs
• Ability to mentor engineers and lead technical execution

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in data center power infrastructure or mission-critical electrical equipment
• Background with switchgear OEMs or contract manufacturers
• Familiarity with UL witness testing and certification documentation
• Working knowledge of UL1062, UL891, NEC, and related safety standards
