Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Responsibilities

• Gather and develop requirements for systems with stakeholders across all disciplines
• Conceptualize system architectures and concepts based on high-level requirements
• Lead small teams in the design of precision mechanical and opto-mechanical equipment and systems
• Design mechanical, opto-mechanical, and electro-mechanical equipment and systems
• Validate design work with appropriate analysis including static and modal FEA
• Integrate precision hardware into large-scale CAD assemblies
• Perform detailed component materials and finish specifications and manage technical data transfer to suppliers
• Assemble prototype hardware and execute test plans for subsystem performance validation
• Guide and mentor other engineers

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience as a mechanical design engineer
• Proficiency with 3D CAD packages such as SolidWorks, CREO, or Autodesk Inventor
• Thorough knowledge of drafting, tolerance analysis, and GD&T
• Demonstrated experience with FEA (Structural, Modal, Random Vibration)
• Practical knowledge of manufacturing processes including machining, sheet metal, and welding
• Experience with Product Data Management Systems like SolidWorks PDM
• Experience with cleanroom, high-voltage, or high-vacuum environments
• Experience designing laser systems or optical instruments
• Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with CFD analysis with empirical validation
