About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of specialized load-handling equipment through the entire R&D lifecycle
- Develop early-stage CAD models, calculations, and cost estimates during the concept phase
- Perform finite element analysis (FEA), stress analysis, and load simulations to validate designs
- Collaborate with the Fabrication Services Department to ensure adherence to design specifications and quality standards
- Oversee load testing of specialty rigging tools to verify safety and functionality
- Serve as a field technical liaison for critical lifts, providing risk management and safety evaluations
- Manage multiple R&D projects simultaneously, including budgets, schedules, and risks
- Mentor junior engineers and review technical documentation such as fabrication drawings and FEA reports
- Research and implement emerging technologies and materials to improve equipment performance
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field from an ABET accredited university
- 7+ years of experience designing mechanical or structural equipment for heavy lift or transport industries
- Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Inventor
- Expertise in structural analysis, FEA, and stress/fatigue analysis
- Knowledge of cranes, hoists, hydraulic systems, winches, and rigging equipment
- Familiarity with engineering software like RISA-3D, Ansys, Mathcad, or MS Excel
- Understanding of industry standards including OSHA, AISC, AWS, ASME B30, and ANSI
- Ability to travel to project sites and work in outdoor or construction environments
- Must pass a drug test, fit for duty, and background check
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- OSHA 10 certification
