About the role

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of specialized load-handling equipment through the entire R&D lifecycle
  • Develop early-stage CAD models, calculations, and cost estimates during the concept phase
  • Perform finite element analysis (FEA), stress analysis, and load simulations to validate designs
  • Collaborate with the Fabrication Services Department to ensure adherence to design specifications and quality standards
  • Oversee load testing of specialty rigging tools to verify safety and functionality
  • Serve as a field technical liaison for critical lifts, providing risk management and safety evaluations
  • Manage multiple R&D projects simultaneously, including budgets, schedules, and risks
  • Mentor junior engineers and review technical documentation such as fabrication drawings and FEA reports
  • Research and implement emerging technologies and materials to improve equipment performance

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field from an ABET accredited university
  • 7+ years of experience designing mechanical or structural equipment for heavy lift or transport industries
  • Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Inventor
  • Expertise in structural analysis, FEA, and stress/fatigue analysis
  • Knowledge of cranes, hoists, hydraulic systems, winches, and rigging equipment
  • Familiarity with engineering software like RISA-3D, Ansys, Mathcad, or MS Excel
  • Understanding of industry standards including OSHA, AISC, AWS, ASME B30, and ANSI
  • Ability to travel to project sites and work in outdoor or construction environments
  • Must pass a drug test, fit for duty, and background check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • OSHA 10 certification
