Senior Materials Engineer

Responsibilities

• Establish M&P best practices, materials testing infrastructure, and strategy
• Operate equipment to measure material properties like tensile strength, surface roughness, and microstructure
• Generate and track quality metrics for printed parts, including dimensional accuracy and defect distribution
• Organize, analyze, and interpret data to present key findings
• Collaborate with process development teams to integrate materials findings into printing processes and machine learning models
• Establish and optimize processes for measuring and quantifying material quality
• Create automation for M&P procedures
• Strategize continuous improvement plans for system performance, reliability, and scalability

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in material science, materials engineering, metallurgy, or mechanical engineering
• 7+ years of professional materials engineering experience
• At least three years of experience specifically with metals
• Experience with metallurgical sample preparation (cutting, grinding, polishing, acid etching, optical microscopy)

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD in material science, metallurgy, or related engineering field
• 10+ years of materials engineering experience
• Experience with metal additive manufacturing
• Experience with laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) processes
• Experience in process development and operating complex materials equipment
• Familiarity with statistical data analysis software such as R, JMP, or Minitab
