Senior Manufacturing Engineer (Machining)

Northwood is a modern space infrastructure company bringing the benefits of space to the masses through advanced communications technology. We are building a global network of phased array ground stations that enable real-time, reliable communication for satellite missions.

Responsibilities

• Own the roadmap to establish and scale an internal machine shop including machine selection and procurement
• Source and purchase CNC machines, workholding, tooling, and metrology equipment
• Coordinate machine delivery, installation, acceptance testing, and maintenance
• Design machine shop layout, workflows, and safety standards
• Design and validate machining fixtures and workholding
• Create and maintain CAM programs, setups, and machining documentation
• Run machines to unblock development and prove out new processes
• Train operators and establish work instructions and troubleshooting guides
• Drive continuous improvement regarding yield, cycle time, and scrap reduction
• Partner with design engineering on DFM and tolerancing strategy

Requirements

• 4–6+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, CNC programming, or CNC machining
• Demonstrated experience with fixture and workholding design
• Strong CAM programming experience (e.g., Fusion, Mastercam, NX CAM)
• Practical understanding of feeds, speeds, tooling, and setup strategy
• Ability to work in a hands-on environment proving out programs on the floor
• Strong communication skills for vendor and stakeholder coordination

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience selecting and commissioning 3/4/5-axis CNC equipment
• Proficiency in CAD for fixturing and tooling design (e.g., Siemens NX)
• Experience with GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, and metrology planning
• Experience developing standardized work and training programs
