About the role
Responsibilities
- Manage peer review and editorial operations for a high-volume medical journal to ensure efficiency and compliance with scholarly publishing guidelines.
- Oversee the relationship with contracted editorial services providers, including budget management and performance monitoring.
- Partner with the Editor-in-Chief to develop strategic objectives for journal growth and market competitiveness.
- Manage the Editorial Board and Section Editors, including recruitment, training, and performance monitoring.
- Lead journal promotion and marketing efforts, including social media, video content curation, and podcast development.
- Supervise and develop Assistant Managing Editors and other editorial staff.
- Provide data-driven analysis of peer review metrics, production, and bibliometrics to support editorial goals.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree.
- 5 years of experience in a scientific or academic publishing environment.
- 5 years of experience in peer review management, specifically working with physicians or scientists.
- 4 years of experience in a people leadership or supervisory role.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint for complex reporting and data analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write executive summaries.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing relationships with external publishers and contracted service providers.
- Ability to navigate research misconduct and ethical issues within scholarly publishing.
- Experience with digital tools for peer review and production workflows.
