About the role

Responsibilities

  • Own the full payroll cycle for all US and Canadian employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Manage the payroll calendar and coordinate with HR and Finance to ensure data integrity
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for payroll discrepancies and employee queries
  • Drive continuous improvement across payroll processes and controls
  • Manage pay runs, earnings, and deduction codes within Workday Payroll and HCM
  • Ensure compliance with US multi-state and Canadian provincial tax obligations
  • Manage year-end processes including W-2, T4, and RL-1 filings
  • Oversee payroll processing and tax withholding for RSU vesting events and equity instruments
  • Lead, develop, and performance-manage a team of four to five payroll professionals
  • Design and maintain SOX-compliant payroll controls and lead audit responses

Requirements

  • 8+ years of hands-on US and Canada payroll experience
  • At least 3 years in a leadership role managing a team
  • Deep knowledge of US multi-state payroll tax and Canadian payroll compliance
  • Proven experience managing RSU and equity payroll
  • Strong command of payroll reconciliation and general ledger mapping
  • Experience leading teams of four or more people

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification
  • Experience with Workday Payroll and Workday HCM
  • Hands-on experience with ADP Smart Compliance
  • Experience supporting high-growth technology companies
  • Familiarity with Shareworks for stock plan administration
  • Experience with payroll and equity tax rules for mobile employee populations
