About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and administrative leadership to a team of Automation Engineers maintaining automation systems for drug substance manufacturing
  • Define, drive, and deliver the automation and process control strategy within Drug Substance manufacturing
  • Serve as the main point of contact for the automation function, including Allen Bradley PLCs, Siemens Desigo CC, and Emerson DeltaV
  • Manage 24x7 day-to-day operational support, staff development, and team productivity
  • Develop support structures for capital projects, plant support, and network-level initiatives
  • Maintain automation system reliability and focus on "Maintenance Excellence" to avoid system failures
  • Ensure site readiness and compliance for internal, external, and partner audits
  • Manage department budgets, including expense forecasts for operational and capital expenses
  • Ensure 100% compliance with Amgen Enterprise cyber resiliency and GMP standards

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 8 years of Engineering and/or Project Management experience, OR Master's degree and 6 years of experience, OR Doctorate degree and 2 years of experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience directly managing people or leading teams, projects, or programs
  • Knowledge of Emerson DeltaV, Allen Bradley PLC, and Siemens Desigo CC
  • Strong knowledge of GMP compliance and regulatory aspects for equipment validation and maintenance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, Biotech Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience with advanced troubleshooting and system integration using OPC, Foundation Fieldbus, and Profibus technologies
  • Experience in the automation of GMP biopharmaceutical equipment (e.g., chromatography, single-use mixing vessels)
  • Ability to interpret and apply GAMPs and GMPs, including familiarity with 21 CFR Part 11, ASTM 2500, S88, and S95
  • Strong leadership, technical writing, and cross-functional communication skills
