About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide technical and administrative leadership to a team of Automation Engineers maintaining automation systems for drug substance manufacturing
- Define, drive, and deliver the automation and process control strategy within Drug Substance manufacturing
- Serve as the main point of contact for the automation function, including Allen Bradley PLCs, Siemens Desigo CC, and Emerson DeltaV
- Manage 24x7 day-to-day operational support, staff development, and team productivity
- Develop support structures for capital projects, plant support, and network-level initiatives
- Maintain automation system reliability and focus on "Maintenance Excellence" to avoid system failures
- Ensure site readiness and compliance for internal, external, and partner audits
- Manage department budgets, including expense forecasts for operational and capital expenses
- Ensure 100% compliance with Amgen Enterprise cyber resiliency and GMP standards
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and 8 years of Engineering and/or Project Management experience, OR Master's degree and 6 years of experience, OR Doctorate degree and 2 years of experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience directly managing people or leading teams, projects, or programs
- Knowledge of Emerson DeltaV, Allen Bradley PLC, and Siemens Desigo CC
- Strong knowledge of GMP compliance and regulatory aspects for equipment validation and maintenance
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, Biotech Engineering, or a related field
- Experience with advanced troubleshooting and system integration using OPC, Foundation Fieldbus, and Profibus technologies
- Experience in the automation of GMP biopharmaceutical equipment (e.g., chromatography, single-use mixing vessels)
- Ability to interpret and apply GAMPs and GMPs, including familiarity with 21 CFR Part 11, ASTM 2500, S88, and S95
- Strong leadership, technical writing, and cross-functional communication skills
