About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead technical execution by defining tasks, sequencing milestones, and maintaining delivery quality
- Design and run applied research studies and build high-quality prototypes for mission-critical workflows
- Establish credible evaluation strategies and test pipelines to assess ML performance, robustness, and reliability
- Serve as a primary technical interface for customers, translating mission goals into measurable technical outcomes
- Mentor junior staff and teammates to raise the bar for research rigor and engineering practice
- Shape research directions by maintaining awareness of frontier AI developments and emerging practices
Requirements
- BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Statistics with 10 years of experience; OR MS with 8 years; OR PhD with 5 years
- Deep expertise in agentic systems, LLM reliability, multimodal learning, or edge ML
- Strong engineering capability to build and maintain high-quality prototypes and evaluation infrastructure
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical workstreams and coordinate multi-person execution
- Ability to work onsite in Pittsburgh, PA or Arlington, VA 5 days per week
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading applied research projects that result in transitioned methods or effective prototypes
- Publications at top-tier venues such as NeurIPS, ICLR, or ICML
- Experience designing TEVV efforts, including robustness analysis and uncertainty quantification
- Experience building agentic capabilities integrated with tools and human workflows
- Experience working within secure or operational environments typical of government settings
