Senior Machine Learning Engineer/Senior Applied Scientist, Search & AI

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Search and AI engineers on large-scale machine learning to improve Query Understanding, Retrieval, and Ranking.
• Develop fundamental building blocks for AI-powered experiences, including fine-tuning and reinforcement learning.
• Push boundaries in document retrieval and ranking using embeddings and deep learning.
• Work with petabytes of data from multiple structured and unstructured sources to provide accurate answers.
• Implement online learning and natural language processing to enhance query understanding and react to changes.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in shipping Search and Q&A technologies and ML systems.
• Proficiency in mainstream programming languages such as C++, Python, Scala, or Go.
• Experience delivering tooling and frameworks to evaluate individual components and end-to-end quality.
• Strong analytical skills to systematically identify opportunities to improve search relevance and answer accuracy.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate complex topics.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to collaborate within a team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in Search Relevance, Ranking, Question Answering, Query Understanding, Personalization, or Recommendation systems.
• Hands-on experience in Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), including developing and enhancing retrievers and generative LLMs.
• Experience presenting technical plans, progress, and results or demos regularly and concisely.
• MS or Ph.D. in AI, Machine Learning, Information Retrieval, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.
