Senior Machine Learning Engineer, Perception

Aurelius Systems is a VC backed defense tech startup building autonomous, edge deployed directed energy systems for counter-UAS. We build laser weapons to shoot down drones.

Responsibilities

• Lead perception architecture across detection, tracking, classification, and sensor fusion
• Develop ML models, training pipelines, and on-device deployment
• Implement multi-sensor fusion across EO/IR and other sensors
• Optimize real-time performance on embedded targets
• Mentor perception engineers as the team grows
• Partner with controls, robotics, and hardware teams

Requirements

• 5+ years building and shipping perception systems on real hardware
• Strong Python and C++ skills
• Deep ML engineering experience
• Expertise in computer vision, tracking, and detection in real-time conditions
• Experience with on-device deployment (TensorRT, ONNX, or equivalent)
• Proven track record optimizing perception for embedded compute and latency budgets
• U.S. Person status required for export control

Preferred Qualifications

• Counter-UAS or aerial target tracking experience
• Radar or RF perception expertise
• Experience with classified programs
• Sensor fusion in adversarial or denied environments
