About the role
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and implement well-engineered prototypes of AI systems to support research into algorithm vulnerabilities.
- Develop machine learning models and systems using frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Torch, or Caffe.
- Build and manage data pipelines, ETL processes, and backend systems using Python, C/C++, or Java.
- Conduct technical experimentation in domains including computer vision, natural language processing, and robot control.
- Perform testing and evaluation of systems for both performance and security using novel analysis techniques.
- Collaborate with researchers and government sponsors to translate research results into functioning capabilities.
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to the technical growth of the division.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Machine Learning, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with 10 years of experience; OR MS with 8 years of experience; OR PhD with 5 years of experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an active Department of War security clearance.
- Willingness to work onsite 5 days per week in Pittsburgh, PA or Arlington, VA.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% to sponsor sites, conferences, or other SEI offices.
- Comprehensive knowledge of machine learning and a track record of using engineering practices to solve complex problems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in adversarial machine learning.
- Experience leading technical projects in novel research areas.
- Strong history of publishing technical artifacts or written research.
