About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide support to litigation attorneys, including research, document retrieval, and service of process
- Perform electronic court filings for state and federal district and appellate courts
- Review court filings and enter calendar deadlines into centralized docketing software (e.g., CourtAlert)
- Screen and review incoming and outgoing court documents to ensure compliance with court rules and procedures
- Communicate with attorneys, paralegals, and staff regarding procedural requirements and filing revisions
- Track critical dates and communicate information to relevant legal staff
- Coordinate the delivery of courtesy copies to the court as necessary
- Assist with administrative projects and general back-up support
Requirements
- Strong understanding of court docketing and calendaring procedures
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Experience with electronic filing systems such as e-File Texas, NexGen, or PACER
- Experience using legal research tools like WestLaw, Practical Law, or Lexis
- Knowledge of Texas state and federal court rules and procedures
- Excellent organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of five years of experience in litigation docketing or paralegal work
- Experience working in a large law firm
- Familiarity with rules-based calendaring software such as CourtAlert, CompuLaw, or MA3000
- Four-year college degree or completion of a paralegal certificate program
- NALS, NALA, or TBLS paralegal certification
