Senior Legal Officer

Responsibilities

• Produce high-quality analysis of immigration, economic migration, asylum and nationality law and policy
• Monitor developments in legislation, case law, and policy
• Prepare written briefings, updates, and summaries for members and stakeholders
• Support parliamentary work, including monitoring legislation and drafting consultation responses
• Engage with parliamentarians, officials, and external organisations
• Liaise with ILPA members to gather evidence and practice insight
• Support thematic and regional working groups
• Manage legal project delivery and ensure outputs are delivered on time
• Provide shared line management for the Legal Project Officer
• Ensure legal and policy information is accurately stored and organised

Requirements

• Post-qualification experience in immigration, economic migration, asylum, or nationality law
• Strong legal analysis, judgement, and drafting skills
• Ability to communicate complex legal information clearly in writing and orally
• Experience of legal or policy work within immigration law
• Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage competing deadlines
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Commitment to ILPA’s charitable objectives

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with parliamentarians or government departments
• Knowledge of parliamentary process and legislative scrutiny
• Experience of project management or grant-funded work
• Experience supervising staff or supporting junior colleagues
