Senior Legal Counsel

Responsibilities

• Structure, negotiate, and advise on all commercial contracts including SaaS, technology licenses, and partnership agreements
• Build out the legal function by developing templates, playbooks, and workflows
• Advise on IP, regulatory, and privacy matters, including AI-related legal nuances
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Operations, and Agent Development teams
• Mentor junior legal team members as the function grows
• Exercise strategic judgment to manage risk in a hyperscaling environment

Requirements

• 8+ years of legal experience with a mix of large law firm and in-house tech experience
• Strong background in negotiating complex commercial contracts (SaaS, AI, or enterprise software)
• Professional fluency in both Japanese and English
• Ability to navigate ambiguity in a fast-paced startup environment
• Experience working on a global legal team

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing privacy/regulatory frameworks and data processing agreements
• Deep understanding of AI products and LLMs
• Experience at a high-growth startup
• Industry knowledge in Financial Services, Healthcare, Telecoms, Insurance, or Consumer sectors
• Direct management experience building or scaling legal teams
