Senior Legal Counsel (Product & Regulatory)

Responsibilities

• Partner with Commercial, Product, Treasury, and Compliance teams to provide real-time legal advice and creative solutions.
• Support relationships with regulators regarding license-related matters and potential de novo applications.
• Review payments product structures, flows, and terms to ensure full legal compliance.
• Advise on payments regulatory matters and broader requirements applicable to financial institutions across multiple jurisdictions.
• Support market expansion by researching new territories and managing the application or expansion of licenses.
• Monitor and advise the business on new regulatory developments impacting operations and contractual commitments.

Requirements

• Qualified solicitor or lawyer with 8+ years PQE.
• Strong understanding of legal principles applicable to the payments ecosystem and regulatory/licensing strategy.
• Proven ability to manage a diverse workload and deliver on high-priority projects concurrently.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex legal issues clearly and concisely.
• Ability to work autonomously and thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous, and changing environment.
• A practical, solutions-oriented approach to solving complex legal challenges.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience working within FinTech, start-ups, or major financial institutions.
• Experience in both in-house and private practice legal environments.
