About the role

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the negotiation, interpretation, and administration of collective bargaining agreements.
  • Participate in collective negotiations and the presentation of proposals.
  • Resolve complex employee, supervisor, and union-related labor relations issues.
  • Advise supervisors and employees regarding labor and employee relations matters.
  • Provide guidance on grievance procedures and work with the Office of General Counsel on arbitrations and PERC proceedings.
  • Design and deliver workshops on employee and labor relations subjects.
  • Lead, guide, and instruct Labor Relations Specialists in their daily duties.
  • Conduct research on existing, new, and anticipated employment legislation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • At least five (5) years of progressively complex experience in labor relations or human resources.
  • Proven experience working within a unionized environment.
  • Strong knowledge of employment and labor law.
  • Proficiency in using databases and spreadsheet software (e.g., Microsoft Excel).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant advanced degree or law degree (JD).
  • Prior experience in higher education or the public sector.
  • Experience in labor relations within an academic medical center or healthcare facility.
  • Experience costing proposals and wages during labor negotiations.
