Senior Java Engineer

Responsibilities

• Lead high-level Java development for instrument control, including multi-threaded applications and GUI frameworks
• Modernize legacy Java codebases while maintaining backward compatibility with embedded systems
• Interface with microcontrollers, sensors, and actuators via SPI, I2C, and serial protocols
• Debug and optimize low-level communication between software and hardware components
• Design and maintain relational databases for instrument metadata and experiment logs
• Implement data analysis pipelines using Python and Java for real-time monitoring
• Act as a Subject Matter Expert for software architecture and mentor junior engineers
• Drive CI/CD pipelines, version control, and automated testing frameworks

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
• 6–8 years of experience in Java development for instrumentation, robotics, or embedded systems
• Expertise in Core Java, multi-threading, JavaFX/Swing, Maven, and NetBeans
• Hands-on experience with hardware protocols including USB, Serial, SPI, and I2C

Preferred Qualifications

• Python scripting skills
• Experience with Qt/GUI frameworks
• Embedded firmware knowledge in C/C++
