Senior Industry Specialist - Climate Finance Specialist

Responsibilities

• Implement IFC's Sustainability Finance strategy in Africa to address climate change issues and identify market gaps.
• Generate new business leads for investment and advisory services within the Financial Institutions Group (FIG).
• Provide technical expertise for the entire project life cycle, from business development and due diligence to investment negotiations and supervision.
• Design and lead sustainable finance advisory programs for partner banks, focusing on climate-related credit underwriting and risk assessment.
• Support the development of financial instruments such as green, social, and sustainability bonds, as well as project-level equity and debt.
• Conduct technical due diligence in alignment with IFC climate standards and monitor project impact through regular reporting.
• Build and maintain long-term partnerships with regional financial institutions, government bodies, and private sector players.

Requirements

• Master's degree or higher in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Environmental Finance, or a related discipline.
• 8-10 years of experience in structured finance, specifically regarding the technical and financial structuring of renewable energy and energy efficiency projects.
• Deep understanding of financial structures used for climate-friendly projects and how financial intermediaries (banks, insurance companies, etc.) operate.
• Extensive knowledge of clean energy and environmental markets in Africa and familiarity with international best practices.
• Familiarity with Green Bond Principles and IFC Climate Definitions/Guidance Notes.
• Proven ability to lead tasks with minimal support and negotiate effectively in a matrixed environment.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in management, strategy, or technical consulting.
• Experience working with senior management in government institutions and private sector technical players.
