Senior II Engineer

Responsibilities

• Own the design and delivery of significant backend systems and services across a product domain
• Lead complex, multi-sprint engineering initiatives spanning several engineers and stakeholders
• Drive scaling work by identifying bottlenecks and executing architectural migrations
• Make pragmatic decisions regarding distributed systems, consistency, and observability
• Mentor senior and mid-level engineers and conduct thorough code reviews
• Partner with Product, Data Engineering, and domain experts to scope and ship features
• Improve developer experience through better tooling, testing, and observability

Requirements

• Several years of experience as a senior backend engineer leading technical initiatives
• Proven experience designing and operating distributed systems in production
• Track record of solving scaling problems related to database throughput, latency, or cost
• Experience with event-driven architectures and message queues
• Strong design skills regarding APIs, service boundaries, and data flow
• Expert-level Python experience with modern frameworks like FastAPI
• Deep working knowledge of SQL and relational data modelling
• Strong product mindset and ability to communicate complex tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with complex permissioning or access control systems
• Experience with end-to-end document management systems at scale
• Experience modernising legacy systems with minimal downtime
• Experience with data pipeline orchestrators
• Experience working at AI startups or building with LLM-based solutions
