Senior II Data Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own Preply’s data lake ensuring clear ownership, schemas, and quality
• Develop and operate scalable batch and streaming ingestion pipelines
• Implement data contracts, validation, and anomaly detection early in the ingestion lifecycle
• Build enrichment logic to join and contextualize data across domains
• Instrument pipelines with observability metrics including freshness, latency, and cost
• Apply consistent access control, classification, and privacy protections
• Contribute to standardized ingestion templates and platform tooling
• Collaborate with Product, Backend, Analytics, and ML partners to align on requirements

Requirements

• Experience driving architectural patterns for large, high-scale applications
• Proven track record in platform or data engineering leading multi-stakeholder deliveries
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP) and modern DevOps practices
• Hands-on experience with real-time and batch processing (Spark, Flink, Kafka, Debezium)
• Expertise with orchestration tools like Airflow or dbt
• Strong problem-solving skills and proactive mindset
• English proficiency (B2+)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience scaling data infrastructures in fast-growing startups
• Proficiency with Terraform or Kubernetes
• Strong SQL proficiency
