Senior Human Resources Specialist

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational HR support to the VPA, VPRI, and Governance portfolios, with a focus on IT Services and CIO projects.
• Advise on employee and labour relations, including collective agreement interpretation, grievances, and performance management.
• Partner with leaders to design organizational structures and manage change management activities.
• Oversee full-cycle recruitment, talent management, and succession planning while ensuring alignment with EDI commitments.
• Lead HR initiatives related to organizational effectiveness, process improvement, and workforce development.
• Ensure compliance with employment legislation, university policies, and collective agreements.
• Integrate principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and Indigeneity into all HR practices and portfolio culture.

Requirements

• Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
• 4-5 years of related human resources work experience.
• Experience working within a complex, unionized environment.
• Strong knowledge of employment legislation and HR management practices.
• Proficiency in HR systems and MS Office applications.
• Demonstrated commitment to enhancing awareness and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with change management; Prosci certification is considered an asset.
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain productive relationships across cultural differences.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic advisory skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.
• Ability to maintain high levels of confidentiality, discretion, and tact.
