About the role
Responsibilities
- Design, simulate, and optimize integrated photonic devices and circuits for quantum computing
- Lead photonic tapeouts including layout, DOE planning, and interfacing with packaging and electronics teams
- Plan and execute automated high-volume tests and develop new test methods
- Analyze measurement data and implement new analysis methods to improve component and circuit performance
- Collaborate with photonics, test, materials, electronics, process, and packaging engineers
- Mentor junior staff members
Requirements
- MS or PhD in electrical engineering, applied physics, optical engineering, or related discipline
- 3+ years of industrial experience in integrated photonics
- Deep expertise in active and passive photonic devices with focus on electro-optic phase shifters and modulators
- Experience with high-speed operation (10 GHz bandwidth and beyond)
- Proficient in Python and MATLAB
- Strong data analysis and visualization skills with data-driven design decision ability
- Experience leading photonic tapeouts and understanding foundry processes
- Photonic layout experience using IPKISS, GDSFactory, or similar tools
- Ability to work independently with limited direction in a multi-disciplinary environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of photonic circuit modeling using Lumerical Interconnect or SAX
- Knowledge of RF concepts, signal integrity, and simulation tools such as HFSS and ADS
- Hands-on experience with photonic packaging
- Understanding of photonic-electronic interfaces including drivers and TIAs
- Familiarity with high-speed characterization techniques such as S-parameter measurements and large-signal time-domain analysis
