Senior Grounds Keeper

Responsibilities

• Provide gardening, turf management, and winter snow removal services for the university campus
• Supervise student staff, volunteers, and special team projects
• Maintain tools, equipment, and materials, including performing minor maintenance on power equipment and irrigation systems
• Perform turf and lawn maintenance, tree care, weeding, and watering
• Work in the greenhouse to start seedlings, water, spray, and propagate plant material
• Execute snow removal duties including plowing, deicing, Bobcat operation, and power sweeping sidewalks
• Conduct regular garden inspections to identify insect, disease, or weed control needs

Requirements

• Valid driver's license
• Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in horticulture trades
• Associate's degree or undergraduate study in horticulture, botany, or natural sciences
• Experience operating various hand and power tools (e.g., lawnmowers, rototillers, tractors, backpack sprayers)
• Knowledge of irrigation systems and maintenance
• Applicator's License (ornamental and turf category) or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire

Preferred Qualifications

• Supervisory experience with landscaping or garden staff
• In-depth knowledge of plant identification, design, and Best Management Practices
• Understanding of soil nutrition, sustainable gardening, and Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
• Ability to perform strenuous physical work outdoors in Minnesota weather year-round
