Senior FX Artist

Responsibilities

• Produce complex simulations including smoke, fire, explosions, liquids, destruction, and magical effects
• Use Houdini (Pyro, Flip, RBD, Vellum, SOPs) to generate optimized and adaptable effects
• Propose artistic solutions aligned with project vision and participate in dailies
• Ensure cache optimization, setup stability, and compliance with technical conventions
• Collaborate with Pipeline, layout, lighting, and compositing departments
• Provide realistic estimates and communicate risks or delays to production
• Share knowledge and tools with colleagues to improve department workflows

Requirements

• Minimum 10 years of experience in FX within a VFX studio
• Excellent command of Houdini (Pyro, Flip, RBD, Vellum, SOPs)
• Basic knowledge of Nuke, Arnold, and Karma
• Knowledge of USD and Solaris
• Strong sense of movement, physics, and visual rhythm
• Must be based in Montreal
• Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or open work permit required

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of Flow Production Tracking
• Experience developing Houdini tools
• Proficiency in Python or VEX scripting
