Senior Flight Software Engineer

Responsibilities

• Own critical software components for a new vehicle from initial concept through design, implementation, testing, and deployment
• Write and test software for spacecraft, including drivers, networking, fault management, and attitude control interfaces
• Assist in creating and executing tests, including HITL (hardware in the loop), HOOTL/SITL (software in the loop), integration testing, and unit testing
• Support the growth of the software organization through interviewing and mentoring engineers and interns

Requirements

• 5+ years of software development experience
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
• Proficiency in systems-level languages such as Rust, C++, or C
• Experience working in a Linux development environment
• Experience with version control, code reviews, issue tracking, and CI/CD
• Ability to work onsite in Playa Vista, CA

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with safety-critical or fault-tolerant systems
• Familiarity with Python for testing and tooling
• Hands-on experience with spacecraft, flight hardware, HITL, flat-sats, or avionics systems
• Experience collaborating with GNC engineers and sensor interfaces (IMUs, GPS, Star Trackers)
• Knowledge of networking concepts (TCP, UDP, Ethernet)
• Experience with low-level communication protocols (CANbus, UART, I2C, RS422/485)
• Familiarity with Linux kernel, kernel modules, and device trees
• Experience in startups or small independent teams
