About the role
Responsibilities
- Coordinate, assign, and schedule daily activities for the Fire Safety Specialist team to ensure full campus coverage.
- Respond to fire alarms, fire reports, and other campus emergencies including gas leaks, water leaks, and life safety issues.
- Serve as Fire Safety Incident Commander during alarms, coordinating evacuations with Public Safety and Facilities.
- Act as a liaison with FDNY units and operate under the direction of the FDNY Officer in Charge.
- Perform fire safety inspections, technical maintenance, and building fire drills.
- Assist the Director of Fire Safety Operations in mentoring new personnel and reinforcing departmental procedures.
- Ensure compliance with NYC Building Code, Fire Code, and other applicable regulatory standards.
- Maintain accurate data entry, logs, and documentation for regulatory audits.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to obtain required FDNY Certificates of Fitness (e.g., A-35, C-92, F-01, S-12, etc.).
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
- Physical ability to perform tasks associated with campus-wide coverage in a complex medical and research environment.
- Ability to work variable shifts, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two to five years of experience responding to fire alarms in a business, industrial, or academic campus setting.
- Experience in a technical school, firefighting, or as a Fire Alarm Technician.
