About the role
Responsibilities
- Implement plans and process improvements for financial administration activities
- Forecast, plan, and monitor multiple complex budgets
- Analyze financial trends and prepare analytical reports and forecasts for management decision-making
- Monitor department budgets to ensure expenditures remain within allocated limits
- Interpret and apply University policies, agency requirements, and regulatory standards
- Develop and maintain procedures for the use of space and equipment
- Direct the activities of a group of staff-appointed employees performing similar functions
- Manage payroll for all appointed and non-appointed staff
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of five years of recent senior-level experience in budgeting, forecasting, accounting, and financial analysis
- At least 3 years of experience in accounts receivable, payroll, and using FIS/HRIS or similar systems
- Proven experience overseeing complex budgets, financial statements, and revenue/expenditure transactions
- Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), internal control principles, and collective agreements
- Excellent analytical skills with high attention to detail and organizational abilities
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a recognized professional accounting program (e.g., CPA)
