Senior Field Mechanical Engineer - Assembly

Responsibilities

• Own and act as the subject matter expert for the assembly sequence of assigned workstations, specifically focusing on Toroidal Field Coil (TF) semicircle sub-assemblies.
• Define work scope for new first-encounter tasks, including the installation of manifolds and magnet sub-assemblies.
• Resolve assembly issues related to fit, method, or component handling by collaborating with Tokamak System design teams.
• Procure or design tools, fixtures, and manipulation equipment required for upcoming process stages.
• Provide design feedback to sub-system teams to ensure components are optimized for manufacturing and assembly.
• Manage non-conformance issues and implement red-line changes into updated assembly sequences.
• Support hands-on operations during Tokamak assembly and collaborate with adjacent sub-system experts.

Requirements

• B.S. in Civil, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering.
• 7+ years of Mechanical Engineering experience demonstrating project ownership.
• 4+ years of experience overseeing in-progress construction, manufacturing, or assembly/integration processes.
• 4+ years of experience using CAD software.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical activities such as standing, stooping, or climbing for extended periods.
• Ability to work onsite 5 days a week in an industrial facility containing hazards such as high voltage, strong magnets, and cryogenics.

Preferred Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience with Siemens NX.
• Experience with lifting operations and heavy component manipulation.
• Knowledge of welding, piping, and tubing construction/joining.
• Experience with highly complex, delicate, or tightly packaged assemblies.
• Experience designing alignment and positioning fixtures for large structures.
