Aalo Atomics is pioneering a new era in clean energy with factory-fabricated microreactors designed to deliver affordable, scalable, and reliable nuclear power. Based in Austin, TX, we’re rapidly growing as we work to deploy the world’s first fleet of advanced microreactors.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute high-fidelity 2D and 3D finite element models to simulate thermo-mechanical behavior of fuel rods, pellets, and cladding
  • Conduct detailed evaluations of Pellet-Cladding Mechanical Interactions (PCMI) and Pellet-Cladding Thermal Interactions (PCTI)
  • Simulate time- and burnup-dependent fuel phenomena including fission gas release, swelling, and cladding creep
  • Utilize and adapt nuclear fuel performance codes such as BISON, FRAPCON/FRAPTRAN, or ENIGMA
  • Lead rigorous Verification and Validation (V&V) procedures in compliance with ASME NQA-1 standards
  • Compile and authorize formal technical reports to defend fuel safety margins before regulatory authorities

Requirements

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a relevant discipline
  • 5–8+ years of experience in computational mechanics
  • 3+ years dedicated to nuclear fuel performance modeling or core materials evaluation
  • Advanced proficiency with BISON or FRAPCON and commercial solvers like Abaqus or ANSYS Mechanical
  • Proficiency in Python, C++, or Fortran for code customization
  • Based in the United States and willing to work on-site in Austin, TX
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Person in compliance with 10 CFR Part 810

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience modeling Accident Tolerant Fuel (ATF) concepts or liquid metal/molten salt reactor fuel elements
  • Active or prior U.S. DOE Q-Level or DoD Secret security clearance
  • Track record of publishing peer-reviewed research or presenting to nuclear regulatory bodies
