Senior Facilities Mechanical Engineer

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced mechanical engineering planning, design, and project management for sophisticated HVAC, steam, and chilled water plant operations.
• Design HVAC, hydronics, process gases, and specialized lab/vivaria ventilation and control systems.
• Lead major capital projects, including tenant improvements, infrastructure upgrades, and new construction from initiation through closeout.
• Develop and manage project budgets, including vendor selection, contract negotiations, and cost tracking.
• Implement energy efficiency projects and feasibility studies to support greenhouse gas reduction goals.
• Ensure strict adherence to federal, state, and local regulations, including IBC, NFPA, and OSHA.
• Mentor lower-level mechanical engineering staff and collaborate with Facilities Operations to optimize facility performance.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in mechanical engineering and project management, specifically within critical infrastructure environments.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, central utility plants, and building automation systems.
• Experience managing complex projects, including budget oversight and vendor management.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for collaborating with diverse stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting BSL1 & 2 rated laboratory environments or vivaria.
• Proficiency with MS Project, Trimble Construct (e-Builder), or similar project management software.
• Demonstrated expertise in equipment lifecycle management and maintenance strategies.
