Senior Experimental Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design and development of mechanical systems for ion, electron, neutron, and X/gamma-ray diagnostics
• Design in-vacuum electronics cooling systems
• Create vacuum-compatible assemblies using Autodesk Inventor
• Integrate diagnostic systems in harsh EMP and electromagnetic interference environments
• Select UHV-compatible materials, components, and sealing methods
• Support assembly, alignment, and field deployment of diagnostic devices
• Collaborate with physicists and electrical engineers
• Conduct structural, thermal, and mechanical simulations using COMSOL Multiphysics
• Create ISO/DIN/CE-compliant documentation and technical drawings

Requirements

• B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
• 5+ years of industry experience
• Experience designing precision mechanical systems for high-energy laser experiments
• Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor
• Hands-on experience with vacuum-compatible systems and UHV materials
• Understanding of cooling systems for in-vacuum electronics
• Familiarity with ISO, DIN, and CE standards

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience deploying diagnostics in high-intensity laser facilities
• Familiarity with spectrometers (Thomson parabola, time-of-flight, or scintillator-based)
• Proficiency in COMSOL Multiphysics, Geant4, or OpenFoam
• Experience with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA)
