Senior Engineering Manager

Fonoa is the Tax Operating System for autonomous tax. We provide modular infrastructure covering the full indirect tax lifecycle, including tax ID validation, real-time tax determination, e-invoicing, and returns. Trusted by companies like Canva, Netflix, Spotify, Uber, Zoom, and Booking.com.

Responsibilities

• Run a product engineering team, aligning business objectives with technical delivery
• Partner with Product Managers to co-own the product roadmap
• Guide day-to-day tactical work, including hiring, onboarding, and mentoring engineers
• Contribute to broader engineering culture and high-level strategy alongside the CTO
• Continuously strive to build the best API product by leveraging modern capabilities

Requirements

• Proficiency in written and spoken English
• Experience leading and developing engineering teams
• Strong sense of ownership and product thinking
• Ability to optimize processes for speed without sacrificing quality
• Experience with large-scale microservices in high-load environments
• Knowledge of multiple programming languages (Go and TypeScript preferred)
• Comfortable with distributed and asynchronous work patterns
• Data-driven approach to decision-making

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in high-growth startup environments
• Familiarity with Node.js, Go, React, TypeScript, GCP, k8s, Terraform, or Postgres
