Senior Engineering Manager - Applied Machine Learning

Responsibilities

• Lead the strategic direction, technical architecture, and leadership of the Search / Information Retrieval team.
• Build and support high-performance, scalable enterprise platforms for Search, Knowledge Graph, and ML inferencing systems.
• Ensure unparalleled availability, optimal performance, and minimal latency for high-throughput applications.
• Bridge the gap between legacy search infrastructure (IR) and modern Generative AI capabilities to build intelligent information ecosystems.
• Manage, hire, and retain top-tier engineering talent across various skill levels.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, executives, and cross-functional teams to align technical roadmaps with business needs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or an equivalent field.
• 10+ years of experience in Software Engineering.
• 3+ years of experience in a leadership or management capacity.
• Proficiency in Java.
• Proficiency in Information Retrieval and Generative AI.

Preferred Qualifications

• Deep expertise in Search & IR, including classic algorithms, relevance tuning, and ranking architectures (e.g., Solr, OpenSearch, Lucene).
• Proven track record designing systems integrating Generative AI, RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), Vector Databases, and Hybrid Search.
• Experience architecting highly available, distributed systems capable of handling massive data volumes and low-latency requirements.
• Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, concurrency, and multi-threading.
• Exposure to data processing, model training/fine-tuning methodologies, and Big Data processing systems.
• Experience with JVM performance tuning and various design patterns.
• Ability to foster a culture of innovation, psychological safety, and technical excellence.
