Senior Engineering Lead II

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a high-output team of engineers, fostering a culture of autonomy and continuous professional growth.
• Act as the primary technical authority for the Contacts domain, driving deep architectural discussions and managing technical debt.
• Reimagine the architecture for managing recipients, modeling people, businesses, and bank accounts within complex distributed systems.
• Scale search and validation engines to support the Wise Platform, ensuring high performance for enterprise and banking partners.
• Partner with Product Managers to define the technical roadmap, balancing rapid delivery with long-term stability and security.
• Drive operational excellence by improving the reliability and security of services processing millions of critical data points.

Requirements

• Expert-level backend engineering skills, with deep expertise in the Java ecosystem.
• Proven experience designing and implementing complex, large-scale distributed systems.
• Extensive experience in leadership and people management, including hiring, coaching, and performance management.
• Strong product mindset with the ability to align technical efforts with business goals and customer value.
• Strategic thinking capabilities, with the ability to plan long-term technical strategies for critical domains.
• Excellent communication skills to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working within fintech, payments, or identity/graph data domains.
• Proven track record of building high-throughput APIs for enterprise or platform clients.
• Experience scaling a technical domain from a single team into multiple specialized squads.
