Senior Engineer, System Automation (Device Interfaces)

Responsibilities

• Own and drive device interface requirements for photonic/electro-optic devices and related in-house hardware
• Translate system-level automation and calibration needs into firmware and control-software requirements
• Partner with software engineers to integrate device interfaces through the control stack
• Prototype, debug, and contribute Python code for hardware control, automation, and test workflows
• Identify calibration or control functionality to migrate from Python into firmware

Requirements

• B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or Optical Engineering
• 5+ years of experience in systems engineering, hardware automation, or embedded systems
• Strong Python development skills for hardware control and automation
• Experience working hands-on with complex hardware systems spanning firmware and software
• Ability to drive ambiguous technical requirements across multiple engineering teams

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with photonic, electro-optic, optical, or RF hardware systems
• Experience defining device APIs, hardware abstraction layers, or instrument drivers
• Familiarity with firmware constraints like latency, determinism, and real-time behavior
• Experience with system-level modelling or hardware-in-the-loop testing
