About the role
Responsibilities
- Design, review, and manage engineering projects for capital improvements, including roadway infrastructure and water resource utilities.
- Prepare plans, specifications, and cost estimates for engineering projects.
- Review plans and estimates from consulting engineers, architects, and private contractors to ensure compliance with regulations and economic feasibility.
- Monitor construction projects in progress to ensure adherence to plans and specifications.
- Resolve technical problems with existing systems through inspection and research.
- Review plats, proposed utility construction, and demolition projects for adherence to construction standards.
- For Public Works: Perform traffic signal design, timing, geometric highway design, and traffic planning.
- For Water: Analyze and recommend solutions for water distribution, sanitary sewers, and storm sewers.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
- 6 years of engineering experience (experience in capital improvement projects for Water roles, or traffic signal/geometric design for Civil roles).
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration in the State of Ohio or ability to obtain registration through reciprocity.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to pass a background investigation, medical examination, and drug/nicotine screening.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in an Engineering-related field or Public Administration (may substitute for one year of experience).
- Previous experience as a Municipal Inspector with the City of Dayton.
