About the role
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the design and development of electrical systems for spacecraft avionics, including flight computers, power distribution, guidance, navigation, sensors, actuators, and communication systems
- Perform schematic capture and PCB layout
- Conduct bring-up, testing, and validation of newly designed hardware
- Collaborate with software engineers on hardware and software integration
- Build and test early hardware prototypes to evaluate design concepts and mitigate risks
- Work cross-functionally with mechanical, software, systems, and production teams
- Create design documentation, test procedures, and reports
- Participate in design reviews and mentor other engineers
Requirements
- 5-8 years of experience in hardware engineering
- Expert level knowledge in schematic capture and PCB layout software (e.g., Altium, Cadence/Orcad)
- Familiarity with electronic components, circuits, and test equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies)
- Understanding of microcontrollers and common communication interfaces (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet)
- Experience with embedded systems and embedded programming concepts
- Comfortable in a Linux development environment
- Strong problem-solving and teamwork skills
- Must be a U.S. person or eligible to access export-controlled information
Preferred Qualifications
- B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- Familiarity with environmental testing (vibration, thermal, EMI)
- Exposure to Python for test automation or data analysis
- Experience with power electronics for space applications (batteries, GaN switching converters)
- Experience with FPGAs, SoC, or embedded Linux platforms
- Previous startup experience
